Many universities have postponed exams due to protest action. Here is an update of the situation at various institutions based on their official communications as of 16:00 on 28 October.
University of Cape Town: Exams are postponed and a new date “yet undetermined”.
University of Western Cape: Exams are postponed but are set to start 2 November.
Cape Peninsula University of Technology: Exams are postponed until “further notice”.
University of the Witwatersrand: Exams are postponed and a new timetable will be sent out as soon as possible. The timetable will be similar to the original but will have new dates.
Stellenbosch University: Exams are postponed by a week and are set to begin on 3 November.
North-West University: Exams are postponed by a week and are set to begin on 2 November.
Rhodes University: Exams are not postponed and are set to begin on 30 October. Practical and oral examinations that were scheduled for this week are being renegotiated. Supplementary exams have also been made available for all courses on application without charge.
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University: Exams are not postponed and are set to begin on 6 November. The first week of November that was set as a study week may include preparation so that students can enter the exams with their “duly performed” requirements and be fully prepared.
Tshwane University of Technology: Exams postponed and are set to begin on 18 November. Classes will be extended to Saturdays and evenings “where necessary” to ensure that students are fully prepared.
Walter Sisulu University: Unable to confirm but exams were originally only meant to start 9 November.
Fort Hare University: Unable to confirm but a student leader claims that they are writing next week.
University of Pretoria: Exams are postponed; a new starting date is unconfirmed.
