Chippa United’s Goldman hopes to stay in the PSL
What a challenging weekend it was for Cape Town’s PSL teams. Ajax played Golden Arrows at Cape Town stadium needing three points to stay in the PSL. Mabhuti Khenyeza scored the opening goal followed by Toriq Losper and Khenyeza again, saving Ajax from relegation. But Chippa United’s fate is still unclear.
Chippa beat AmaZulu on Saturday to keep their hopes alive when Brent Carelse and Bongani Ndulula scored a goal each. Chippa now have to win their playoff on 29 May to stay in South Africa’s top league. GroundUp spoke to Chippa United Goal Keeper Tashrique Goldman.
GroundUp: How do you feel about your team being in the relegation play-offs?
Goldman: Well, Its not the first time I have personally played in the playoff. When I was at Maritzburg United we faced it and got through. If Chippa United is confident, that’s important because as a sports player you should always believe these things happen. We understand what we are faced with.
GroundUp: Do you think as a goalkeeper there is more pressure on you?
Goldman: No, we work as team which is made up of a squad of eleven and you can’t rely on one person. We share the pressure together. We trust each other as we know our strengths and weaknesses. That’s how we work together.
GroundUp: What is your career ambition?
Goldman: I would like to stay with Chippa United. My plan was that I moved from Maritzburg United to build a relationship with this team and the coach, because personally I feel that jumping from one team to another is not good. I would like to pursue a life career in Europe and Eastern Africa.
GroundUp: What Advice would you give to the youth?
Goldman: Go out on the field and believe. Know yourself and know your long term goals in life. Anything is possible if you have faith.
