Enkanini residents protest at police failure to find missing woman
Anelisa Daluze has been missing since January
Residents of Enkanini in Khayelitsha marched to the Site B police station today in protest against the failure of the police to find missing 21 year old Anelisa Daluze.
She was last seen at Pat’s tavern on the 30 of January where she celebrated her 21st birthday with friends. Her mother, Vathiswa, says she has had sleepless nights ever since her daughter went missing but still hopes her daughter is alive. If Anelisa were dead, her body would have been found by now, she says.
The protesters, from the Women and Children’s Rights organisation, Ilitha Labantu, the Seskhona People’s Rights Movement and the ANC Women’s League, say police have failed in their duty.
Anelisa was reported missing at Lingelethu West Police Station on 2 February, but attempts by residents to find her have been unsuccessful.
Seskhona leader Andile Lili told the police they better work fast in finding the girl before the community took matters into their own hands and went after the people who had last been seen with her.
Protesters gave the police three weeks to report back to them about what they had done to find the girl. A memorandum addressed to deputy minister of Police Maggie Sotyu was accepted by Colonel Mkuseli Nkwitshi who promised to pass to Khayelitsha cluster commander General John Brandt.
