GroundUp speaks to FC Cape Town’s Jason Dickson

19 year old Jason Dickson speaks to GroundUp about life as a football player.
GroundUp: Where did you grow up?
Dickson: Garden Village, Cape Town.
GroundUp: What position do you play?
Dickson: Right back, defensive midfielder and central defender.
GroundUp: What teams have you played for?
Dickson: Before coming to FC Cape Town, I played for Old Mutual Academy Vodacom team.
GroundUp: What challenges have you faced in your soccer career?
Dickson: Last season was a real challenge. I was both playing professional soccer and completing my matric education – it was one of the biggest challenges of my life. But I passed my matric exam with a varsity exemption.
GroundUp: Who is your role model?
Dickson: My role model in soccer is Gerard Pique. My father is also a great role model.
GroundUp: How has this season been for you?
Dickson: It’s been a difficult and challenging season so far.
GroundUp: What message would you give to young people with dreams?
Dickson: My advice is to believe in yourself. Respect and discipline also goes a long way. You can have all the talent in the world but you must have respect and discipline.
