“Silence must not be allowed to win”

Today GroundUp publishes this image in solidarity with journalists all over the world following the attack in Paris on the staff of Charlie Hebdo, in which ten journalists and two police officers were killed.
Charlie Hebdo is a French satirical weekly known for its irreverent and provocative caricatures of religious and political figures. We condemn this brutal attempt to silence mockery and criticism. Silence must not be allowed to win, as Philippe Val, a former director of Charlie Hebdo has said. An attack on the free press is an attack on the people’s right to know and on democracy.
