The short answer
It is every child’s right to be placed in a school, but the Department of Education cannot force a school to accept a child.
The whole question
We approached various schools within our area and received negative feedback. Would it be advisable to keep the child at home for the school year as the schools have started and the child is still at home?
The long answer
Thanks for your email about the problems you face with getting your child into school.
Though it is certainly every child’s right to be placed in a school, it is unfortunately not always possible to get into the school of your choice, as the school can accept or reject applications, and the Department of Education cannot force the principal to accept a child at a particular school.
We spoke to the Department of Education and they have assured us that your child will be offered a place in a school in the area She will also be given support for any disability she may have.
