Answer to a question from a reader

Why hasn't SASSA paid my R350 Covid grant since May 2022?

The short answer

Under the new regulations, you need to re-apply for the R350 grant.

The long answer

In April 2022, the government amended the regulations to shift the R350 Covid Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant from the Disaster Management Act to the Social Assistance Act. With that shift came several new regulations and qualifying criteria.

Under the new regulations, all existing beneficiaries have to reapply to be considered for the R350 grant. Once you have reapplied, you won't have to apply again. If SASSA rejects your application, you can lodge an appeal - follow this link if you need to appeal: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate

You can find the new regulations here: https://www.gov.za/sites/default/files/gcis_document/202204/46271rg11428gon2042.pdf

The Post Office is no longer paying out SRD grants. When re-applying, you can select the option to receive your money from any Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers or USave merchant.

The Post Office explains here how to do this: https://www.gov.za/speeches/post-office-shorter-queues-branches-10-may-2022-0000#:~:text=The%20SA%20Post%20Office%20strongly,%2C%20Shoprite%2C%20Checkers%20or%20USave.

Wishing you the best,
Marecia
